Spatial Design

This year I’ve been learning spatial design on my own. I believe that this is a wild and exciting technology that will require for me to develop new skills, but I’m pretty sure that it will be worth it.
I had the chance to try the Apple Vision Pro last february, and I saw an early glimpse of what I believe will be a big part of the future of User Interfaces: Spatial Design. This is the video that I uploaded to my YouTube channel when I was trying the Apple Vision Pro:
As I’ve been doing more and more research about it, I’ve realized that I need to polish some skills and to learn a few new tricks to be ready for this new interaction paradigm.
Some skills that I’m learning and planning to learn in the coming months include:
- 3D modeling
- 3D Animation
- Unity and Unreal Engine basics
- Apple Spatial Design courses and tutorials
- Spatial video recording and editing
- SwiftUI basics
- AR/VR design tools like Bezi
I’ve already done some quick concepts using Bezi:
Even though the Apple Vision Pro and XR tech in general aren’t in the mainstream yet, I believe that there will be a huge demand for spatial designers over the next few years. As time passes and the technology becomes more affordable, there’s a good probability that more and more people will adopt it so I want to be ready for it.
